Een weekje Azië tussendoor

Vorige week zijn Marco en ik er lekker een weekje tussenuit geweest, op bezoek bij mijn zusje en nichtje in Azië. Mijn ouders waren daar al een paar weken en twee dagen nadat we in de stad aankwamen, zijn we met z'n allen naar Bali gevlogen voor een lang weekend zon. Heerlijk!
Last week Marco and I took a week long vacation to visit my sister and niece in Asia. My parents had already spent a few weeks with them, and after we spent a couple days in the city, we took a plane to Bali for a long weekend of sunshine. Wonderful!

Dit is het huis van mijn zus en zwager. Het is heel ruim, super licht en echt een heel fijn huis. Met eigen zwembad, maar dat kan niet anders met zulke hoge temperaturen!
This is my sister and brother-in-law's home. It roomy, it's light and it's very, very nice. Your own pool is a must with the high temperatures they get!

Op Bali hadden we een riante villa gehuurd met veel ruimte, inclusief twee lounges. Dit is de loungeruimte boven. Heerlijk relaxed zitten daar!
On Bali, we rented a nice big villa, with lots of space and two lounge area's. This is the upstairs lounge area - it was great to just sit there and relax!

We zaten in Seminyak en daar waren aardig wat 'upscale' winkels. Waaronder een winkel helemaal vol met hondenkleding, -schoentjes, kroontjes, you name it. Natuurlijk kon ik daar niet zomaar voorbij lopen en Daisy is nu de trotse eigenares van een schattig leren halsbandje met roze en rode bloempjes. En een bijpassend riempje.
We stayed in Seminyak and they had quite a few 'upscale' shops. Among which a shop filled to the brim with dog clothing, shoes, crowns, you name it. I obviously couldn't just pass that store, so Daisy is now the proud owner of a cute little leather collar with cute little roses in pink and red. And a matching leash.

Dicht bij onze villa lag het zeer luxe resort The Samaya. Marco en ik hebben daar heel wat uurtjes gezeten om de zonsondergang af te wachten. Dat viel natuurlijk niet mee :) Ik had gelukkig mijn Lomo camera mee, dus als afleiding hebben we polaroids geschoten. Deze foto van mij is natuurlijk vreselijk en wel heel erg 'puur natuur', maar omdat Marco er zo goed op staat zet ik 'm er toch maar bij.
The Samaya was a very luxury resort close to our villa. Marco and I spent quite a few hours at a couple of their beach chairs to wait for the sunset. That was a hard task to have :) Fortunately, I brought my Lomo camera, so we took polaroid images to distract us. This image of me is pretty bad, I know, and way too 'pure and natural', but seeing that Marco is looking his very best in this image I'm including it anyway.

De zonsondergang waar het ons om te doen was, was trouwens geweldig - zie de bovenste foto. En het diner daarna, met z'n allen aan een mooi gedekte tafel aan het strand, dat was helemaal super. We hebben trouwens sowieso heerlijk gegeten op Bali.
By the way, the sunset we wanted to see was absolutely amazing - see the image on top of this post. And the dinner that followed it, with all of us sitting at a nicely set table at the beach, that was totally delicious and fun. We had some very, very good food on Bali.

Een jaar of 17 geleden ben ik met een goede vriendin op Bali geweest tijdens een back-pack vakantie door Indonesië en ik herkende niet veel meer van het eiland. Alleen de markt van Ubud, die is nog zoals ik het me herinnerde! En de aardigheid van de Balinezen, die was er ook nog. Ik realiseer me dat vier nachten veel te kort is om het eiland echt te ontdekken, maar het was een heerlijk tussendoortje.
I spent some time on the island about 17 years ago, when I was backpacking through Indonesia with a good friend and I didn't recognize much from our trip back then, but the market of Ubud, was still how I remembered it. And the friendliness of the Balinese, that remained the same as well. I realize that four nights is way too short to fully appreciate all the island has to offer, but it was a great short getaway!

We vertrokken een paar dagen geleden met 36 graden Celsius uit Bali en toen we terug kwamen op Schiphol was het daar -4. Schok. En die sneeuw, da's wel heel pittoresk hier in Twisk, maar vooral ook heel koud!
When we left Bali a few days ago, we left with temperatures of 36 degrees Celsius (abt 98 Fahrenheit) and we arrived back at Schiphol airport in the freezing cold: -4 degrees Celsius (abt 25 Fahrenheit). Shock. And that show - it's very pittoresque here in Twisk, but it's mostly verrry cold!
